(Photo courtesy of the Bentley Historical Library)Those who drive up Washtenaw Avenue toward the sharp bend into Huron Street are passing the site of a long-lost Ann Arbor landmark known to generations of Michigan students and staff as the Cat Hole. Some say the Cat Hole — a marshy pond and brush-crammed ravine sloping down to the river — got its name from the stealthy practice of medical students who needed a place to dump the remains of the cats they dissected for anatomical study. Another theory is that the early settlers of southern Michigan used the term for any shallow depression where water collected from rain, snow-melt and nearby water-courses, often with cattails growing along their edges. In winter, students flocked to the Cat Hole for sledding and skating. But it became popular chiefly as a place for people to throw things. What is the Black Hole?The Black Hole is a legendary nova shield obtainable in Borderlands 3. It makes its return appearance in Borderlands 3 after appearing in the previous two titles, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Due to the fact that Maliwan is only making guns as of Borderlands 3, the shield has changed manufacturers and is now produced by Pangolin. This means that it can be obtained from any lootable source throughout the entire game. All according to luck.To boost your chances, I strongly recommend increasing your difficulty to at least Mayhem I when you can.

Like many Nova shields found throughout Borderlands 3, the Black Hole does some great proximity damage around your character whenever your shield is depleted to zero.However, unlike other Nova shields, the Black Hole also sucks enemies, barrels, and any other thing the shield can vacuum in its presence. How to Use the Black HoleLike other Nova shields, the Black Hole is best used by characters that love to be in the center of the fray like Zane and melee Amara builds.With Zane in particular, the Black Hole can be especially effective at mitigating damage even on higher Mayhem settings due to the fact that pulling in enemies ragdolls them for a brief period. There’s no better defense than an enemy that can’t shoot back.
