Not because I’m missing too many details that are included in Alfar 4, but because Triumph is by far the weakest story out of the 5, reading far more like an early draft that has random ideas put together just to see what works and what doesn’t, than a fully polished Dwarven epic like its predecessors. Heitz's Dwarves saga has frequent twists toward the end, that either reveal a trusted character to be a traitor, or a sworn enemy turning out to be an ally. So I was waiting for it with Tungdil. Finished it yesterday, and the climactic battle was a good read, but I still don't know about Tungdil. Some characters are convinced Tungdil was who he claimed, and others were convinced he was an impostor.It depends on who you choose to believe. Heitz never let on.

Since it has been so long since we have been in Girdlegard, it is unfortunate to say that all of Tungdil's human allies are dead, and that Tungdil Goldhand was last seen down in the Black Abyss. Book 1 was great, book 2 was good, book 3 was ok, book Well I think you know where this is going. I'm at the point that I may just move on to another book as I'm at breaking point and can barely lift my kindle up to read it.This was by far my least favorite of the series.It started with potential but quickly became a predictable story line to wrap up the series. Still left feeling nostalgic though as the characters throughout 4 books leave a mark on you.

Previously Tungdil had become trapped in the Black Abyss. The story begins with his return, but he is very different to the Tungdil we knew before. Our hero has been through many trials and appears to have turned to the dark arts to survive his ordeal; many of the dwarves now mistrust him. Even Boindil is not entirely convinced that this Tungdil is really who he says he is and his wife Goda is the biggest sceptic of all, believing him to be an evil doppelganger sent to trick them.This element is a good idea, but it becomes irritating towards the end as this mistrust is a constant theme throughout.
I was also a little disappointed with the decision to set the story years later as some of the better characters from the first three books are now dead. Rodario in particular was always entertaining and added a lighter touch; his descendants that feature here are simply not as amusing as he was. There was however one big plus point for me this time around, the tone was much darker this time around, and thankfully left no time for the almost teenage like romantic elements from previous volumes.It was always the weak point in my opinion and quite jarring in its contrast to the other themes in the stories. Amazingly this may not be the final twist in the tale as there are rumours of a fifth volume in the series, I will certainly be keeping an eye open for developments there.
